The system is based on the chemical compositions of the steels and alloys. Example AISI/SAE No. 1020. the first digit indicates that this is plain carbon steel. the second digit indicates there are no alloying elements; the aisi 4130 alloy steel aisi 4340 steel propertiesALLOY Castle Metals SiteAlloy 4340 plate is another general purpose grade of steel used for industrial and machining applications. The inclusion of Nickel in Alloy 4340 helps simplify heat treatment. In addition, the Nickel in Alloy 4340 increases hardenability of the steel. An additional grade of Alloy 4340 is Alloy E-4340.
Physical Properties of 4130 SteelApplications of 4130 SteelSummary4130 steel gets its name from specific rules outlined by the AISI and SAE. The first digit of the alloy designates the class of the steel, including its major alloying component(s). The second digit represents the relative percentage of this alloying element and/or other important secondary elements. The last two digits represent the carbon concentration in 0.01% increments. Knowing these rules, 4130 steel is, therefore, part of the 4xxx and 41xx series (the chromium-molybdenum steels) with around 1% molybdSee more on thomasnetAISI/SAE 4340 Alloy Steel- 4340 Steel Properties All aisi 4130 alloy steel aisi 4340 steel propertiesGeneral characteristics of Alloy Steel 4340 4340 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy steel known for its toughness and its ability to attain high strengths in the heat-treated condition.
